Queridos amigos, aquí estoy de nuevo. Después de mi viaje a la India mi siguiente parada fue en Nápoles, en la Universidad en la que mi buena amiga la profesora Letizia Perillo es jefe del dpto. de Ortodoncia. Estuve dos días dando conferencias a todos los estudiantes de ortodoncia de primero, segundo y tercer año y a otros muchos ortodoncistas que también fueron invitados a asistir.
Pero antes del curso, la noche anterior fui invitado al Teatro San Carlo (La cuna de la ópera en Nápoles) para asistir a la obra “Aida” de Verdi …. una gran puesta en escena. Al día siguiente en la facultad, hablé sobre la ortodoncia basada en objetivos y destaqué la importancia de la función como nuestro objetivo número uno. Desafortunadamente hoy la mayoría de los ortodoncistas sólo están preocupados por la estética, y esto como decimos en español “es flor de un día”, no así la función, que nos da estabilidad, longevidad y un sistema estomatognático saludable.
La primera noche disfrutamos de una gran cena napolitana con muchos de los doctores en un restaurante del precioso puerto de Nápoles. El segundo día hablé sobre tratamiento interdisciplinario y la importancia de trabajar en equipo. Hablé de orto – perio , orto – prost y cirugía ortognática. Hubo una gran asistencia y disfruté muchísimo de mi estancia en la Universidad de Nápoles.
Al final del curso me regalaron una corbata de la famosa tienda de Marinella (adoro las corbatas) y la llevo siempre con mucho orgullo. La última noche mi buen amigo Vittorio me llevó a ver un partido de fútbol, Napoles contra Udinense y terminó con un empate, 3-3 … muchos goles y muy buen fútbol.

Dear Friends, here I am again and this time after my trip to India the next stop was in Napoli at the University of which my good friend Prof Letizia Perillo is head of the Orthodontic Department. I spent two days lecturing to all the orthodontic residents from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year and many other local orthodontists were invited to attend.
However the night before the course started I was invited to the San Carlo Theatre(Naples Opera House) to attend the opera Aida by Verdi…. A great performance. The next day the course started and I lectured on goal oriented orthodontic treatment and stressed the importance of function as our number one objective. Unfortunately today the majority of doctors who do orthodontics are only concerned with esthetics and as we say in spanish “es flor de un día” which means that it comes and goes, however function will give us stability, longevity and a healthy stomatognathic system.
On the first night we all went out for a great napolitano dinner with many of the doctors to a restaurant in the beautiful port of Napoles. The second day was interdisciplinary treatment and the importance of working in a team environment. I spoke on ortho-perio,ortho-prost and ortho-orthognathic surgery. It was a great audience and I really enjoyed my time in the Univ. of Naples.
At the end they bought me a tie(I love ties) from the famous tie maker Marinella which I wear with pride. The last night my good friend Vittorio took me to see a soccer game Napoles-Udinense which ended in a tie 3-3…lots of goals and great futbol.
