Queridos amigos, aquí de nuevo.
Os dejé en mi último blog en Moscú. Después de mi viaje a Moscú volví a San Sebastián, de nuevo me puse a trabajar, trabajé unos cuantos días y de nuevo salí de viaje y esta vez me fui con mi amigo del alma Renato Cocconi y nos fuimos camino a Toronto, a la Universidad de Toronto donde nos invitaron a dar la conferencia Memorial Donald G. Woodside.
Donald Woodside, como todos sabéis, fue un profesor muy conocido de Toronto que falleció hace muy pocos años y nos pidieron que diésemos el curso en memoria de él que se celebra de forma anual. Este año nos tocó a nosotros.
Habló Renato por la mañana y luego yo le seguí. Renato habló sobre estética facial y cirugía y yo hablé sobre el uso de implantes dentales como fuente de anclaje esquelético para la corrección de clases II y mordidas abiertas, y también hablé de disfunción temporomandibular.
Fueron unos 150 doctores, eran todos ex alumnos de la Universidad de Toronto. Tuvimos muchísimo éxito, nos aplaudieron mucho y nos felicitaron. Hasta un oyente me dijo que había estado en muchísimas conferencias en su vida y que las conferencias que habíamos dado, eran de las mejores que había oído, lo cual nos alegró mucho a Renato y a mí. Pero tengo que reconocer que aunque fue un honor poder asistir y dar la conferencia en memoria del Dr. Woodside, lo que realmente fue uno de los momentos mas emocionantes del viaje, fue poder conocer y cenar con el Dr. Jack Dale. Como sabéis, Jack Dale es uno de los más acérrimos defensores de las extracciones seriadas y todos los que habéis leído los libros de Graber, sabéis que él ha escrito muchísimo y es un experto internacional sobre las extracciones seriadas, y yo siempre he admirado muchísimo sus trabajos y sus capítulos en los libros de Graber.
Pues por fin pude conocerle y pude compartir mesa con él y pudimos hablar largo y tendido sobre las extracciones seriadas, que como sabéis es un tema muy querido por mi. Fue realmente emocionante poder conocer a Jack Dale y compartir un tiempo exquisito con él. Me regaló un libro y me lo firmó y dedicó, lo cual hizo que me emocionase muchísimo.
En la cena estuvieron también Renato Cocconi y mi gran amigo Fabrizio Lerda de Cuneo, Italia, que fue el artífice de la reunión porque él conoce a Jack Dale desde hace muchos años y fue gracias a Fabrizio que yo pude estar con él y se lo agradeceré toda mi vida.
Así que ya veis, no sólo di una conferencia, sino que también llegué a conocer a una persona que siempre he admirado, el Dr. Jack Dale.

Dear friends, it’s me again.
On my last blog I was in Moscow. After my journey to Moscow I returned to San Sebastian and spent a few days at work before leaving for another trip, this time to Toronto with my soul-mate Renato Cocconi, to the University of Toronto where we were invited to give the lecture for the Donald G. Woodside memorial.
Donald Woodside, as you all know, was a well known Toronto professor who died a few years ago and the Univ. of Toronto invited us to give the memorial lecture 2013. This year was our turn!!! Renato spoke in the morning and then I followed him. Renato talked about facial aesthetic surgery and I talked about the use of dental implants as a source of skeletal anchorage for the correction of Class II and open bite, and also spoke on the relationship of occlusion and temporomandibular dysfunction.
There were about 150 doctors, all were former students of the University of Toronto. The lectures were a success, with much applause followed by congratulations. One in attendance told me that he had been to many conferences in his time and our lectures were the best he had ever heard, which made us very pleased. But I have to admit that although it was an honor to attend and give the lecture in memory of Dr. Woodside, one of the most exciting moments of the trip was to meet and dine with Dr. Jack Dale. As you know, Jack Dale is one of the staunchest defenders of serial extractions and all who have read the Graber books, know that he has written extensively and is an international expert on serial extraction, and I have always admired his papers and chapters in the Graber books.
When I finally met him and had the priviledge to share a table with him, we spoke at length about serial extraction, which as you know is a subject very dear to me. It was good to meet Jack Dale and spend some time with him. He gave me a book and signed it, which made a real impression on me.
Renato Cocconi and my great friend Fabrizio Lerda, Cuneo, from Italy, also came to dinner. In fact it was thanks to Fabrizio since he knew Jack Dale that we were able to meet him. I will always be grateful to Fabrizio for this opportunity.
So you see, I not only gave a lecture but I also got to meet a person I´ve always admired, Dr. Jack Dale.
