Después de la AAO y la reunión RWISO regresé a casa, trabajé durante tres semanas y luego fui con Jaime Valenzuela(un ortodoncista que trabaja en nuestra clínica) a Toulouse, Francia, por la 86a reunión de la Sociedad Francesa de Ortodoncia y Ortopedia Dentofacial. Me pidieron que hablara sobre ATM y Ortodoncia. Al igual que otras veces como se puede ver en mis otros blogs, recientemente me han invitado a muchas reuniones para hablar sobre el mismo tema y creo que es porque estoy hablando de la relación de la oclusión y la DTM. Muchos doctores se dan cuenta de que hay más en la DTM que un “modelo biopsicosocial” y se dan cuenta de que la oclusión de hecho puede jugar un papel importante en el desarrollo de la DTM.
Volviendo a la reunión, puedo decir que mi conferencia fue un gran éxito y, de hecho, el editor de la “Revista Francesa de Ortodoncia” me pidió publicar la conferencia en su revista y ahora estamos en el proceso de edición y así poder transformar la presentación en un artículo. Resultó muy interesante que la editora compartiera su experiencia conmigo pues ella misma había sufrido un mal tratamiento de ortodoncia. Explicó cómo ésta le dio muchos problemas durante muchos años y sólo recientemente, cuando tuvo su oclusión restaurada y la dimensión vertical recuperada, entonces dejó de tener problemas.
Esto no es raro, cada vez que presento mi conferencia sobre DTM, siempre hay alguien del público que comparte su problema en el que se relacionan la DTM con la oclusión. Estoy seguro de que vendrán tiempos mejores, no podemos seguir haciendo caso omiso a la ATM en nuestro diagnostico ortodóncico. De vuelta al trabajo…
After the AAO and the RWISO meeting went back home worked for three weeks and then “drove” with Jaime Valenzuela(an orthodontist who works in our office) to Toulouse, France for the 86th meeting of the French Society of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. I was asked to speak on the subject of TMJ and Orthodontics. As you can see from my other blogs, recently I have been invited to many meetings to speak on the same subject and I think it is because I am speaking about the relationship of occlusion and TMD. Many doctors realize that there is more to TMD than the “biopsychosocial model” and realize that occlusion may indeed play an important role in the development of TMD.
Getting back to the meeting, my conference was very successful and in fact the editor of the French Orthodontic Journal asked me to publish the paper in their journal and we are now in the process of editing and getting the presentation into the form of an article. What was very interesting was that the same editor shared her experience with me of her own situation where she had suffered from poor orthodontic treatment. She explained how this gave her many problems for many years and only recently when she had her occlusion restored and the vertical dimension recovered she stopped having her problems.
This is not rare, everytime I present my conference on TMD there is always someone from the audience who shares her or his problem where they relate TMD with occlusion. I am sure that better times are near, we can not continue to disregard the TMJ´s in our orthodontic diagnosis. Back to the office….
